Following four main research and development projects to advance the use of energy in buildings are key features in this institute.

Cooling and Heating Load Reduction

Architectural methods are used to reduce the demand for heating, cooling and ventilation. The design and implementation of enhanced exterior wall insulation, the use of double-skin facade, natural ventilation, and earth-to-air heat exchanger are being tested for effectiveness.

Improving Building Energy Efficiency

Using numerical analysis, simulation, and actual measurement and verification methods, we provide design and operation support that contributes to improving the energy efficiency of HVAC systems.

Application of Renewable Energy

We are trying to contribute to low-carbon HVAC systems by maximizing the utilization of natural unused energy such as ground-source heat pumps, co-generation and solar heat collection wall.

Improving and Keeping Thermal Comfort

Efforts are being made to improve and maintain thermal comfort. We provide design support for radiant heating and cooling and verification of dry mist operation.
